They're becoming popular, Abu Sinan. The problem is that people usually associate the two words "nose ring" with the word "tarty". Not very sure why that is.

I must say body art is living a renaissance in Jordan,so to say, I see many young people obtaining piercings in areas other than the traditional ear lobe. I think that is pleasant, but I wrote previously about the fact that no professional piercing studios exist in Amman. That is a very serious matter, it is not so much to cater for "twisted" tastes than to maintain hygiene. Here is the link should you feel interested to check out the article: http://tololy.blogspot.com/2005/10/pierce-it.html

People react in different ways. I have been wearing my nose accessory for a little less than a year now, and reactions have calmed down. At the beginning the idea itself was a taboo, nobody really encouraged me and most dismissed the notion as a whole. Some even feared I would be tagged as "tarty". Then I went and did it, and everyone had to live with it. It's my nose, you know :)

Lulu, it's amazing what pains we are willing to endure for the sake of things we love. Just amazing!

Petra,

Thank you kindly. I will need some luck, some skill & patience too.

A sheepish smile crawls over my face as I read about your piercing-induced struggle. I have two that have lately been causing me trouble, and I've had to be extra careful with them. Yesterday I was doing the exact same thing; wrestling to get one of them in the right way, whilst pretending not to feel the stabs of pain. Why? You said it, Tololy. Because I like it. :)
