Dave,

You have a point. I would, as you, like to see some regulations governing the beautification of Jordanian cities, and not just Amman. It seems as though most attempts to improve the general outlook of streets end miserably due to disregarding the "practical" and "logical" sides of the coin. Think of the numerous streets where trees actually block pedestrians' ways, and hinder the very necessary visual abilities of drivers. Welcome to Tololy's Box, enjoy your stay.

M!r@chk@, you are most welcome. I thank you for signing the petition, I hope nothing was the matter behind your absence lately.

Arrabi,

I am pleased that you are asking questions. As stated in the Arabic Entry that came before this one in question, I am not educated about all the particulars of the law. Perhaps quotes such as follows would be of use and/or interest to you: "less than one per cent of Jordan’s territory is covered by forests — one of the lowest forestation rates in the whole region" - http://www.jordantimes.com/tue/opinion/opinion1.htm

This is the link to the website of The Royal Society fot the Conservation of Nature (http://www.rscn.org.jo/). I am positive you would find logical arguments and possibly the draft of said law, this is the material I could get my hands on. I realize it is not entirely related to your questions, but it ought to meet some angles of the argument. On a final note, welcome to Tololy's Box. I do hope you would drop by again, and give me your feedback on posts and such.

Anonymous Coward,

You are most welcome.

I have more questions about the issue. Do you know where I can read more about the rationale behind this law?

question like:
1- Does this law put any restrictions on the amount of trees to be cut?
2- is this law intended to "develop" the Jordanian forrests into commercial areas (e.g. Green Field restaurant)?
3- Are there certain areas in Jordan, where Forrests prevent further commercial development, that encouraged coming up with this law?

I care about the trees, but I also care about Jordanians greater good. I see no harm in privatization of forrests, as long as there are enough restrictions to preserve them. I don't have enough information to make a decision. It'll be great if you can provide some links to the body of the law or any related literature.

thanks

I signed the petition a few days ago. I would also like to see some sort of beautification ordinance put in place that not only refrained developers from tearing down the few remaining trees, but also required the planting of trees throughout the city.
