Quality management is definitely a positive thing in an organization, it tells employees what to do, when to do it, and how. I think I am in favour of QM, but to a limit.
Just recently, I have come across a person who works in this domain. This person’s life revolves around one word: control. I am not saying this is a bad thing per se, but what I am trying to communicate is that he lives for procedures. He even wrote, in details, the procedure involved in opening a door.
That’s a bit overdoing it, won’t you say?
I hear you
People who work in this domain for too long tend to become detail oriented and they start getting lost in the smaller details overlooking or even neglecting the big picture … so, when they want to own their own businesses, they will be the worst micro-managers ever … take it from someone who has dealt with one first hand and I am telling .. not a pleasant experience .. my ex-boss was that type!!!
I hate the documentation, version controls, and paper trails involved. Yuck!
It’s very sad.
detail oriented in the work only … specially in factories …
but in normal life … i dont think so … :)
Details and exact procedures are good sometimes specially as a start, but in my opinion, when you have good experience in your work you can start having this details and procedures as a common sense and you won’t and shouldn’t stop for them anymore.
With the explosion of small business and freelancers now and the simplicity on how quick you can get things done, everybody is trying to concentrate on the general idea and stay simple, and leave the details for later development.
