LBC’s “هزي يا نواعم” - World Bellydance Championship: Disappointing Finale
I am so very disappointed after watching the finale of LBC’s World Bellydance Championship. The winner, Estelle, did not deserve to win in this episode as far as I saw. Layla, the Ukrainian dancer, did extremely well and she was outrageously discriminated against by the judges who kept on repeating the same old tired lines: she can’t speak Arabic, she doesn’t have the bellydance gene (supposedly this is born with Arabs, HAH!?), she didn’t sing with the song. Rubbish!!! Layla was stellar tonight, but unfortunately, the judges were too biased to notice.
Rana didn’t win, obviously, and neither did Fadwa although she got a very good result but as I expected she didn’t do well enough. Suffice to say that the jury was blatantly biased. What a shame to waste the value of a show like this in the very final episode! It’s a massive anticlimax; I am angry!
I also have a bone to pick with the producers of this finale. What on earth was Saeed Murad doing there? A DJ and bellydancers? What? I mean, seriously. I let it slip when they had the girls dance to some crazy African beat, but this, in the FINAL episode no less, was stupid. The final episode should have been about classical bellydancing, leave the revolutionary evolutionary humbug to other episodes. Not the finale. Ugh.

i had to choose between watching National Treasure or the belly dance finale..but sadly i went to the movie..<br /><br />i wanted fadwa to win..<br />Estele is a good dance in general..maybe layla is a little bit better..but do you thing that her nationality played a role in her winning the title?<br /><br /><br />

I’m sorry the best dancer didn’t win. The same thing happens in sometimes in contests here, sometimes, but usually in our case it’s when the most "politically correct" contestant wins, instead of the best one.

I was totally offended by the jury’s disturbing racism and the constant talk about Layla the Ukrainian dancer being a foreigner and not Arab and that belly dancing is in the genes and the blood. Imagine if someone says to rock and roll you have to be White. <br /><br />And of course we have Egyptian and Kuwaiti movies or TV soap operas constantly mocking people with black complexion. This has got to stop.

Estelle deserved to win fair and square<br />Since the very start she had a definite edge over the other contestant, by virtue of her refined technique, feeling and even long limbs.<br />Even if Layla did well on this episode, I guess the final judgement must be based on the overall performances in all the other episode.<br />Estelle and Layla were always my favorites, but Estelle is by far a better dancer.<br />However, in real life, Layla’s beauty and grace will earn her a good career.<br />Good luck girls<br />

I really disagree with you, I knew Estele will win since the first episod,her dance is classy, time orinted and she’s a really good dances designer…<br />I really think she’s the best..better than Fadwa and Rana, she is better than Layla but I think Layla desearve a bigger award sine she’s not arabic, she dances on a total foriegn music without knowing the words,she’s really great I love her…<br /><b>but she is not Estele :) </b> <br />
