GodTube
I don’t know whether to be amused or petrified. Presidential candidate Huckabee endorsed a Christian video-sharing community called GodTube, with the disturbing motto of “Broadcast Him.”
Not Him from The Powerpuff Girls cartoon! No, not the devilish transvestite whose name is so awful it cannot be said. Him, as in either god or Huckabee. The parallel is disturbing on so many different levels. Off GodTube, here is a video titled Letter from Hell:
With all due respect to all the believers out there, I am at loss for words. Except maybe this blasphemous question: how do you put god in a tube?

So there’s a standard issue 1GB headphone recorder for every hell colonist…by the way your last question only gets you a 64MB version one..since you get thrown in alot faster than the others.

It took forever to listen to 1 minute, and I gave up. I looked at the site, it is a social network for Christians to share much like YouTube, it’s been in the news lately but I haven’t ever looked into it..<br /><br />Maybe you can tell me more about what scared you in an email, if you have time. I don’t know if my answers will more greatly disturb you, or bring peace. With religion, sometimes an intrepretor helps. :)<br />

If it makes you feel any better, Huckabee is a walking punchline and, despite some early support, was never a serious candidate.<br /><br />Also, I’ll never cease to be amazed at how lame all these sorts of trying-way-too-hard-to-be-hip Christian groups are. I mean really. "Broadcast Him" is about the saddest, most obvious name for a website I’ve ever heard.<br />

Oh wait. I see that the website is actually called "GodTube," which is merely bland and unoriginal. Still, "Broadcast Him" is an apalling motto.

I didn’t watch the whole video, Tololy, but it looks like pretty standard Evaneglical fare to me. Watch one of the Televangelists on TV sometime and you’ll hear much the same. Evangelicals kind of creep me out. Especially when they come to my door, Bibles in hand. Their absolute "all or nothing" interpretation of Christian scripture comes across as very hard and very cold, which in my opinion is not what Christianity is all about at all.<br /><br />PS-By "Him" I assume they mean Jesus. <br />

I sat there watching it and it creeped me out but in a good way - although its not aimed at Muslims i can see a contract and really got me thinking. The letter from hell part was over played and "Why didn’t you tell me" question i would answer because your self-centred who wouldnt care much for the after life.<br /><br />The style was creepy and over all good to get you thinking<br /><br />just my 3cents<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

I can see why you’d be a little freaked out (or amused lol). I read the article you linked to and when I read what Huckabee said, that we need more God in the constitution or something like that, and was a little weirded out. I’m not very religious but I’m not sure putting God in the constitution will ‘clean up’ politics… Newayz great post! Would have never even known about it.<br /><br />~netta<br />

Okay, so watched the video.
First, it’s something of a shame that Huckabee brought the site to someone other than its intended audience. The video is clearly supposed to be a call to Christians to spread the good news of Christ’s resurrection in their daily lives -a noble aim. However, the video itself was melodramatic, overplayed, an unlikely to accomplish the goal. What it IS likely to do is creep out people who aren’t believers (rather counter its aim I would think).</p>
<p>I grew up in a small Southern city that had a big billboard on the way into town that said, Go to church or the devil will GET you. Smehow I think that drives more people away than it brings to faith. Such a shame that they take such an approach…</p>
<p>My humble belief is that too many people try to evangelize with fire and brimstone than with the JOY of Jesus. What is that old American expression? You catch more flies with honey tha vinegar…</p>
<p>And, I’m fairly certian that it would have to be an amazing tube to contain God…</p>

That was, erm, interesting.
I can’t seem to understand why people think its OK to spread belief by planting bare fear among the people. Just doesn’t make sense.
Keep your beliefs to yourself. And I keep mine.
