You must’ve been talking to some Linux enthusiast who painted a rosy picture of life on Linux.

While Linux is a far superior OS than M$ Window$, it doesn’t come with nearly as much driver and hardware support as Windows does.

Because of that fact, you should only go into Linux if you know your hardware is supported, or if you can write drivers for your hardware.

It makes a lot of sense these days to get a laptop with Linux already installed, and then install Vista or XP as a second OS.

Also, Mac OS X is not so bad. In fact, Mac Books are the best choice nowadays because you can actually have Vista, XP, Mac OS X and a few flavors of Linux running on a single machine (if so you desire)

This is a good nerd test, Tololy :)

I ahve a lot of experience with switching back and forth between different operating systems, from back in the 1980s and early 1990s. Sometimes for fun, and sometimes for work. At one time I had my system configured to hot boot 1 of 4 different OSes depending on what I needed or wanted to run at the time. There isn’t one time when I installed a new OS and said "OMG this is so cool, I’m really glad I did this!" - which is why I don’t change OSes uinless somebody puts a gun to my head, anymore. But it can be fun in a demeneted and masochistic kind of way, and it’s always a good learning experience. So, good for you :)
