Darwish

In Culture Arabia, Literature on August 10, 2008 at 8:22 am

Mahmoud Darwish, Palestinian poet and activist, passed away last night.

To a reader: Do not trust the poem –
The daughter of absence
It is neither intuition nor is it
Thought
But rather, the sense of the abyss…

(State of Siege)

How do you mourn a poet?
You don’t. You mourn the world without him.

  1. He is a big loss, rest in peace Mahmoud Darwish

  2. Allah yer7amo R.I.P our hero… he was a gr8 man :(

  3. From “In Memory of WB Yeats”

    Earth, receive an honoured guest:

William Yeats is laid to rest.

    Let the Irish vessel lie

    Emptied of its poetry.

    Follow, poet, follow right

To the bottom of the night,

    With your unconstraining voice

    Still persuade us to rejoice;

With the farming of a verse

Make a vineyard of the curse,

    Sing of human unsuccess

    In a rapture of distress;

In the deserts of the heart

    Let the healing fountain start,

In the prison of his days

Teach the free man how to praise.
