And in other news, my vehement opposition to Facebook has finally dwindled to quasi-nothingness. This happened for practical reasons involving cultural events and a peculiar desire to see if my Facebook profile, created on March 2007, was still around. In a fit of paranoia, I had emailed Facebook asking them to delete every single shred of information they had about me, and they said they did. But apparently, they lied.

I also have issues with the name Facebook. A face book? What is that? A book where you keep faces as mementos? Do you skin people out of habit? You like faces? Chubby? Long? What?

That, right there, makes my skin crawl. For this reason, I will test this phenomena for a while and then decide if I like it enough to keep using it. We’ll see.

  1. They did lie! I sent you a message just a few days ago in facebook, asking if you used it! :D

I quite facebook a back in late 2007… just started using it again. I don’t like it much but a lot of my friends are active on it and nowhere else online, so….

  2. LOL :D
    chill.facebook is useful .

  3. I think you will like it since you’re already active in the online social field.

I had my account deactivated there a year ago, I find the site is of no purpose, brings in weird drama into your life is someone is on constant look of your profile, and brings in people from the past that you used to deliberately ignore or never talked to before, and now they are labeled as your friends!!
    good luck with that..

  4. I hate it as well. However, I use it to join fan pages and groups that interest me. That’s all. Just to know the latest buzz really quick!

  5. I neither love nor hate it, but it’s useful at least for quickly sharing photos, news, links with people

  6. By the way, a “Facebook” was originally a book they would hand out to college students with a picture of each incoming freshman along with her or his name. I guess the idea was that if you saw someone at a club/class/whatever and didn’t get to talk to them, you could flip through the book and find her or his name. I got one when I started college in 2004 but that was when Facebook.com was just getting started, so I doubt they distribute them any more.

  7. Thanks for the info Sarah. I didn’t know that :)
