Cheb Douzi has a new song out called “Kolli Laki” (I Am All Yours) which I personally find to be a revolution of sorts. Part of the lyrics goes as follows:

Very interesting, no? One would think taboo subjects like religion and sex and whatnot are not normally treated in Arabic songs, but here we are with a song that I personally find to be pleasant, and it’s about Cheb Douzi’s masochistic fantasies. How avant-garde!

This Cheb Douzi is really a shame to all those Maghribi singers of Rai who through the subject matter of their music that includes religion, alcohol, sex, and identity formation have challenged the social, ideological, and political oppression they faced in both the Maghrib and France since the early 1920s.

Calling it BDSM may be going too far. I might change my mind if I see the music video, but the words sound figurative as opposed to literally tying him up especially with things like (my eyes are yours, and my lashes are yours). He didn’t say things like (whip me or spank me).
